In Law & Order: SVU, the character of Amanda Rollins has been consistently portrayed by actress Kelli Giddish all the way from season 13 to season 26 (the current season).
Despite being cut from the main cast partway through season 24, Detective Rollins has remained a fan favorite and still pops up from time to time. But her most recent appearances seem to contradict her previous character development and see her used only as a prop for her husband Dominick Carisi (portrayed by Peter Scanavino).
"Rollins' appeal was in her unique blend of fiery independence and need for love and acceptance. She was a complicated character who had moved from Atlanta to New York to escape her family — and the trauma she experienced when she was sexually assaulted."
Detective Rollins overcame a lot during her Law & Order: SVU tenure, including a gambling addiction and troubles with her family. Recent appearances, however, relegate her to a bland, supportive wife role that feels atypical for her character. Since leaving the main cast, she has only been seen at work once; otherwise, she's servicing Carisi's story.
"Law & Order: SVU has always been about supporting survivors ... Rollins' original story offered a role model for real-life survivors, as she was someone who had endured multiple traumas, sometimes making serious mistakes because of her pain, but was dedicated to personal growth."
ONTD, should Detective Rollins return to the main cast of Law & Order: SVU?
